Baptis7n and Childhood.                305
O let not this world's scorching glow Thy Spirit's quickening dew efface,
Nor blast of sin too rudely blow, And quench the trembling flame of grace ;
Gather Thy lambs within Thine arm, And gently in Thy bosom bear;
Keep them, O Lord, from hurt and harm, And bid them rest for ever there!
So shall they, waiting here below, Like Thee, their Lord, a little span,
In wisdom and in stature grow, And favour both with God and man.
William Walsham How. [1854. j
CCLXXXVII.
Saviour, who Thy flock art feeding With the Shepherd's kindest care,
All the feeble gently leading, While the lambs Thy bosom share ;
Now, these little ones receiving, Fold them in Thy gracious arm ;
There, we know, Thy word believing, Only there, secure from harm !
Never, from Thy pasture roving,
Let them be the lion's prey; Let Thy tenderness so loving
Keep them all life's dangerous way :
Then, within Thy fold eternal,
Let them find a resting-place, Feed in pastures ever vernal, Drink the rivers of Thy grace !
William Angus his Muhlenberg. 1826 X
